Food & drinks

Where do I go for the best coffee, a traditional Portuguese meal or a healthy option? And where is the best barstool? There is a lot to choose, but these are our favorites. And if you’re visiting us, we can tell you some more insider tips.

Portuguese food

Modern

Our absolute favorite restaurant is Mar das Latas. Not only the food is amazing, but the service is something you won’t see much around anymore. Miguel, the owner, will suggest you the most tasty wines. His wife makes the best portuguese food, but with a modern twist. And their son, Gonzales, is just too funny.

In the same street, with the best (sunset) views of Ericeira, I also want to recommend Costa Fria. Especially their eggplant and scallop dish, yummy.

Traditional

For a proper traditional portuguese meal, I suggest A Bica. It’s a 10 minute drive to the north, in the little town of Barril. This family run restaurant still have portuguese prices and you will be surrounded by the locals.

Or same story but a lot smaller, go to Pescador in Ribamar, just 4 minutes away. And try to order “O menu do dia com um copo de vinho” then you’re always good.

Healthy food

Our fave spot

Only a 10 min walk, you will find our Vizinha‘s. The best café around, with super chill vibes, fresh and local veggies/fruits, good coffees. And they serve sandwiches, a day dish and delicious sweet stuff. Don’t forget to stop at the neighbor bakery for the best sourdough breads and addicting croissants!

This place we visit almost every weekend (with our kids) and is our absolute favorite to hang all day: Barbatana! Not only has it the best healthy food, it also has the best outside spot even when you’re inside. While Franck is surfing I can have an easy time, because the kids are enjoying the beach. Sometimes it is a long wait, but that is only because they serve with love.

Other options

BeU and the Organic Way are great spots. Then you have GiG very popular, but does have good healthy food. Same for Balagan, with their middle east cuisine, a social place with a cool decor and amazing view. Sunset Bamboo, with her nice outside terrace overlooking Praça de República. And our Indian friends, Red Chili, not the coziest place but it has some good veggie dishes. Ask for the vegetable jalfezi and ask them to make it spicy.

International food

Italian

Best Italian is Cucina 37 for us, be in time because they don’t have much tables.

For the best pizza, go to PepeVerde or Secret Oven in town! For the best views, go to Pizzamobile in São Lourenço, they have the thinnest pizza’s or Voyage Bar at praia São Julião.

Sushi

The first time we ate sushi here we were absolutely surprised by the quality. Our favorite is Onegai

Mexican

Calavera has good food, a very nice atmosphere and the best home made hot sauce. Try to get a seat outside!

Live music Ericeira Barzinho guesthouse Barefoot

The best barstool

Bar

You cannot leave town before having been to Adega bar 1987. Have a cocktail(s) with some petiscos and enjoy the great atmosphere !

But even worse is missing out on Barzinho with the the best live music and jam sessions!

Dance

We have the oldest disco of Portugal, called Ouriço. It is the place for a late night party, but mostly for the youngsters and not really our thing.

So if you want to go for a dance, go to Hurley’s or Indigo and dance the night away with a beautiful sunset view. There are also some cool ‘underground’ parties (ask me 😉 or just go to Barzinho!

Best coffee

To be honest with you, I don’t drink coffee haha. But I asked everybody around me and these is the winners: Tiger & Chick and Dear Rose Café

Don’t feel like going out of the house?

We also have some very good options to bring the food and music to you !

Besides having a good blue tooth sound system, we can also organize a special event for you at the Barefoot house. Interested ? Drop us an email !
